Dutch National Ballet
Back To Ballet – classic Livestream
4th December 2020
The Back to Ballet – classic programme consists of Paquita by Rachel Beaujean, the latest work by director Ted Brandsen: Classical Symphony, Swan Lake pas de deux, Le Corsaire pas de deux & Valse Fantaisie performed by members of our Junior Company.
Last October Back to Ballet – classic premiered at Dutch National Ballet. Sadly because of the partial lockdown the company could only dance one performance, which was recorded.

Beautifully danced throughout, Classical Symphony is a highlight, showing off as it does the strong male dancers of the Company. Syncronised dancers scything through the air, using the entire (bare) stage to maximum advantage. Danced tonight by Daniel Silva, Vito Mazzeo, Martin ten Kortenaar & Jared Wright, with Remi Wörtmeyer on dazzling form, this a ballet to watch on repeat.

Valse Fantaisie, danced by Elisabeth Tonev & Davi Ramos, is a lovely intro. Swan Lake (danced by Anna Ol & Jozef Varga) & Le Corsaire (danced with a plush precision by Maia Makhateli & her attentive partner, Young Gyu Choi) pas de deux’s may be staples for this type of programme, but Paquita; less so. Anna Tsygankova is an assured dancer, sensitively partnered by Costa Allen. They are supported by fine dancers – all – including, in the Pas de trois, Nina Tonoli, Edo Wijnen & Riho Sakamoto.
As though sliding down rainbows onto the stage with exquisite, joyful dance radiating out of them like butterflies dancing along the edges of winter – Salome Leverashvili, Jessica Xuan, Naira Agvanean, Floor Eimers, Antonina Tchirpanlieva, Erica Horwood, Milena Sidorova, Yvonne Slingerland, Jingjing Mao, Maria Chugai, Wendeline Wijkstra, Khayla Fitzpatrick, Saya Okubo, Nancy Burer, Hannah de Klein, Nadine Drouin, Sandra Quintyn & Luiza Bertho.
Catch them if you can!
The company will dance two more shows, with different casts and without an audience, streamed live and direct from the theatre on 9 & 12 December.
