Angela Scanlon is the ninth celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2023

On Saturday night, the remaining couples took to the Strictly Ballroom in the hope of impressing our Judges, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Head Judge, Shirley Ballas and the voting public.

This weekend, Angela Scanlon became the ninth contestant to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing as she faced Layton Williams in the dreaded dance off.

Both couples performed their routines again. Layton and his dance partner Nikita Kuzmin performed their American Smooth to âItâs Oh So Quietâ by BjĂśrk. Angela and her dance partner Carlos Gu performed their Cha Cha to âI Will Surviveâ by Gloria Gaynor in a bid to impress the Judges and remain in the competition.

After both couples had danced in the Ballroom for a second time, the Judges delivered their verdicts:
Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Layton and Nikita.
Craig said: âTechnically for me personally, the better dance of the night, and the dance I actually enjoyed the most, was Layton and Nikita.â
Motsi Mabuse chose to save Layton and Nikita.
Motsi said: âWell this was certainly a tough, tough dance off. I based my decision on musicality and balance and that is why I will be saving Nikita and Layton.â
Anton Du Beke chose to save Layton and Nikita.
Anton said: âWell I thought that was quite a tense dance off, I donât think either couple danced as well as they can. It was the closest dance off weâve had in the series so far. This is the only thing, I saw an error from one of the couples, so Iâm going to vote to keep in to the quarter-finals, Layton and Nikita.â
With three votes to Layton and Nikita, it meant they had won the majority vote and would be staying in the competition regardless, however Head Judge Shirley Ballas said she would have decided to save Angela and Carlos.

Shirley said:Â âWell important for me always when it comes to Ballroom and Latin is the character of the dance, that itâs true to the dance, timing and quality and I would have voted for Angela and Carlos.â

When asked by Tess about her time on the show, Angela said: âItâs been honestly incredible, Iâm gutted, really gutted that itâs finished now, but it has been the most wonderful experience. I have made the best friend in this man [to Carlos]. We have had so much fun, he is such an incredible guy. He has supported me and picked me up and made me laugh so much. I donât know what to say, itâs been magical honestly â all of those people up there! My husband at home, my two little girls and all my friends!â

Her dance partner Carlos said: âHer commitment and her strength every day, day by day â Iâm a professional dancer and she works so hard, harder than me! Look at her now â I am so proud, her sense of humour and we had so much fun everyday â she cracks me up laughing!â

The results show on Sunday night opened with a Hollywood glam, whodunnit-inspired routine from our professional dancers, plus a performance from Texas singing âInner Smileâ with a fun and fabulous dance from Vito Coppola and Luba Mushtuk.
The remaining five couples will take to the dancefloor next when Strictly Come Dancing returns for a Musicals special on Saturday 2nd December at 19:25, with the results show on Sunday 3rd December at 19:20 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
