Last Saturday’s first live Strictly show of the series saw all the couples take to the dancefloor for the first time with no public vote, once again bringing glitter, glamour and glorious dancing to homes across the nation.
This week Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman hosted the second live show as our couples tried to dazzle the fabulous judges; Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Head Judge, Shirley Ballas, and the audience at home.
The judges’ scores this week were added to those from last week, and were then combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.
This weekend, Les Dennis became the first contestant to leave Strictly Come Dancing as he faced Nikita Kanda in the dreaded dance off.
After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts:
Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Nikita and Gorka.
Craig said: “The couple I would like to save and who I think danced the best on the night and was the most improved is Nikita and Gorka.”
Motsi Mabuse chose to save Nikita and Gorka.
Motsi said: “Both couples danced better in the dance off. One couple was extremely better in the dance off. I will save Nikita and Gorka.”
Anton Du Beke chose to save Nikita and Gorka.
Anton said: “I thought it was a competition of two couples on performance alone and who could really nail their performance. I think the couple who did the best job were Nikita and Gorka.”
With three votes in favour of Nikita and Gorka, they won the majority vote meaning that Les and Nancy would be leaving the competition. Head Judge Shirley Ballas also agreed and said she would have decided to save Nikita and Gorka.
When asked by Tess about their time on the show, Les said: “I’ve had the best time, this lady has been amazing, a great teacher, she’s really put me through my paces. (To Nancy) I did as well as I could for you, I hope! That lot up there, I’m going to miss you so much. I really appreciate and understand the judge’s point of view, thank you so much (To Shirley) for giving me a 10 for entertainment. I hope I’ve entertained, that’s what I came here for. Strictly is the best and the people who put this on, you’re just all amazing!”
Nancy was then asked by Tess how it had it been teaching in the training room with her partner, Les and said: “It’s been a journey. This is such a short but a sweet journey. A lot of challenges we all know, but to see you (to Les) every day improve yourself. I respect you so, so much. I just want to say thank you to the judges and all my fellow friends. Thank you Strictly Come Dancing for all of your support. Thank you Les.”
Sunday’s Results show also featured a routine from our fabulous professional dancers, dancing to a medley in tribute to the iconic Tina Turner. Plus a show stopping musical performance from singer songwriter Jorja Smith performing her song, Try Me.
The remaining fourteen couples will take to the dancefloor next week in a spectacular Movie Week Special when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 7th October at 6:20pm with the results show on Sunday 8th October at 7:15pm on BBC One.
