Have Luminous autographed by artistic director of The Australian Ballet, David McAllister, and four of our principal artists, at an exclusive book signing, 12 noon on Saturday 22 October at The Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre, Melbourne. The book can be purchased on the day.

McAllister said the book uncovered many memories and little-seen gems.

“From the iconic images that have shaped the public face of the company to never-before-seen photos of intimate moments away from the stage, this book reveals in pictures and prose why this company is so loved by the Australian public.”

The pictorial imagery is accompanied by fascinating essays from some of Australia’s leading arts writers, each detailing a decade in the company’s rich and vibrant history. The Australian’s Deborah Jones, The Sydney Morning Herald’s Jill Sykes and The Age’s Michael Shmith, the National Library of Australia’s dance curator Lee Christofis, alongside noted reviewers and dance writers Alan Brissenden and Valerie Lawson, have pooled years of in-depth knowledge and research to their respective chapters.

The result is a definitive history of the company from its aspirational beginnings to its current status as Australia’s national flagship dance organisation.

The foreword is written by award-winning author and ballet devotee Helen Garner.

Ballet trivia buffs will appreciate the lists outlining the company’s full repertoire, dancers and touring schedules between 1962 and 2012.
