Strictly’s Artem Chigvintsev to join Strictly Cinderella
Strictly’s professional dancer, Artem Chigvintsev is donning his dancing shoes for a special one-off appearance as he joins the cast of CBeebies for this year’s panto extravaganza, Strictly Cinderella.
Artem plays the palace choreographer who is giving dance lessons to the Prince (Alex Winters) before his appearance in the dance competition, Strictly CBeebies. But the Prince is devastated when he receives the lowest ever score in the dance competition from the Strictly CBeebies judges – Craig Revel Horwood, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman.
Artem was delighted to appear in the CBeebies panto: “I have had such fun taking part in the CBeebies panto and it was great to work with all the CBeebies cast. It was nice to take a break from filming Strictly to take on such a different role and I enjoyed every minute.
“I play the palace choreographer who has the job of teaching the Prince some dance steps before he takes part in the Strictly CBeebies dance competition. His choreography skills can’t be up to much though as the Prince gets the lowest score ever! Hopefully I will have more success on Strictly Come Dancing!”
This re-telling of a classic fairytale has all the traditional pantomime ingredients – there’s songs and laughter, cheers and boos and the occasional “Oh no it isn’t !” But there’s also a few hidden extras as for one night only the Strictly Come Dancing set will be transformed into the Prince Charming’s Palace as the Prince tries to woo Cinderella (Katrina Bryan aka Nina from Nina And The Neurons) with his groovy dance moves!
Also appearing in CBeebies Panto: Strictly Cinderella are: Chris Jarvis as Baron Hardup; Ben Faulks (aka Mr Bloom) as Buttons Bloom; Nisha Anil as the Fairy Godmother; Katy Ashworth as The Royal Cook; Sid Sloane as Dandini; Pui Fan Lee as Baroness Bossy Nova; Phil Gallagher (aka Mister Maker) and Justin Fletcher as the ugly sisters, Makerena and Tumbleina; and Cerrie Burnell and Andy Day as the hosts of Strictly CBeebies. And there are also special guest appearances from the Strictly Come Dancing judges.
CBeebies Panto: Strictly Cinderella was commissioned by Kay Benbow, controller of CBeebies. The executive producer is Paul Shuttleworth and Helen Sheppard is the producer and director. The one-off special will air in December 2011 on CBeebies.
There are further festive offerings from CBeebies this year with Christmas specials of Timmy Time, Abney And Teal, Mister Maker, Mike The Knight, Justin’s House and Rastamouse. Not forgetting the CBeebies presentation studio, which will be transformed into a magical Christmas wonderland with tinsel, baubles and presents.
