Strictly Come Dancing | Results Week 7
Dave Myers is the sixth celebrity to leave the dance floor in Strictly Come Dancing 2013.
Last night’s Strictly Come Dancing was full of glamour and sequins as hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman invited the nine couples to take to the dance floor in a bid to impress judges Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, and the viewers at home.
Natalie Gumede did not perform in Saturday night’s Strictly Come Dancing after fainting during rehearsals yesterday. She was checked by the medical team on site but wasn’t well enough to perform, and will have further medical checks. As per the rules of Strictly she will have a ‘bye’ through to next week.
This week it was Hairy Biker Dave Myers and his partner Karen Hauer; and actor Mark Benton and his partner Iveta Lukosiute, in the bottom two, facing the dance-off to determine who would be the sixth couple voted out of the competition.
Between them, the nine remaining couples danced a Quickstep, Charleston, Paso, Jive, Waltz, American Smooth, Tango, Rumba and for the first time this series, the Argentine Tango. The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.
Both couples then performed their routines again; Dave and Karen did their Tango to ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’ by The Proclaimers, and Mark and Iveta performed their Rumba to ‘Goldfinger’ by Shirley Bassey.
After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts with Craig, Darcey and Bruno all choosing to save Mark.
Craig Revel Horwood said: “I’d like to save the better mover, and the better mover in my opinion is Mark and Iveta.”
Darcey Bussell said: “I found it incredibly difficult to choose because they both did a better performance and I’ve fallen in love with both of them, but it comes down to the couple, (I choose) Mark and Iveta.”
Bruno Tonioli said: “Well I have to say, apart from my job as a judge, both of you gave us so much entertainment I really do appreciate everything you have done. It’s been wonderful, but I have to save the couple that have engaged me the most tonight, being Mark and Iveta.”
With three judges all agreeing to save Mark, Head Judge Len Goodman added afterwards that he would not have voted the same as his colleagues, saying: “No, I did not agree with my colleagues here. I felt with both couples that nerves took over a little bit, Dave you missed out one little step on the outside swivel, but I thought Mark, you had a lot of mistakes going on throughout that dance and if it had come down to me I would have saved you Dave.”
Looking back at his time on the show, Dave said: “I’ve had the time of my life Tess, I mean I’ve met some wonderful friends, but everything is down to our Karen. I did come to this having never danced before, well only planted my feet and banged my head. The first dancing lesson is a bit like having your first driving lesson but they give you a Ferrari, so you’re bound to crunch the gears, but she’s still in one piece. But I think with her and Kevin, myself and my wife, we’ve just made the most wonderful friends. And you lot (judges) are alright as well. I would like to thank everyone at Strictly, including yourself (Tess), including all of the professional dancers who’ve embraced us lot. The wonderful thing about Strictly, it’s democratic, the public have a say, the professionals have a say and everybody looks out for everybody else and I’ve loved every minute.”
Karen added: “Ah Dave, I love you. You’ve given everything and I thank you for that because every day you’ve given 100% – I love you.”
Sunday’s Results show featured a performance from The Tenors, singing ‘Forever Young’.
Next week Strictly Come Dancing is on Saturday 16th November at 6.30pm and will be live from Blackpool, with the results show on Sunday 17th November at 7.15pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.
