Peter Schaufuss’ Midnight Express rolls into the London Coliseum in one month
In one months’ time, Peter Schaufuss’ Midnight Express will debut in the UK at the London Coliseum, with performances April 9-14. Based on the 1977 book and subsequent 1978 film by Billy Hayes, this reinterpretation of the critically acclaimed drama will star SERGEI POLUNIN, the ballet prodigy who shocked the dance world in 2012 when he abruptly left the Royal Ballet, but returned to thrill in Tamara Rojo’s final performance at the Royal Opera House in February 2013.
This visceral and innovative production will take on the story of Billy Hayes’ six year incarceration in a Turkish Prison after being caught smuggling hashish across the border at just 23 years old. Having been turned in to an Academy Award winning film in 1978 by Alan Parker and starring John Hurt, it has been reinterpreted in a sensational fashion, featuring exhilarating balletic ability to convey the strength of human spirit when faced with unspeakable torture.
With original choreography by Olivier and London Evening Standard award winning PETER SCHAUFUSS, this performance is not to be missed. This production also stars IGOR ZELENSKY, artistic director of the Stanislavki Ballet and WAYNE EAGLING former Artistic Director of English National Ballet.
