National Ballet of Canada | Tours to Saratoga Springs in 2013 with a Mixed Programme of The Four Seasons & Emergence

The National Ballet of Canada’s production of the great Romantic classic Giselle opened last night at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto for only seven performances. Giselle runs from December 5 – 9, 2012.

The company will be touring Giselle to Saratoga Springs, New York, July 16 – 18, 2013, becoming the first ballet company outside of New York City Ballet to perform at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The National Ballet will also present an all-Canadian mixed programme of The Four Seasons & Emergence and will be accompanied by the National Ballet Orchestra.

Since its premiere with the company in 1970, Sir Peter Wright‘s Giselle has been a mainstay of the National Ballet’s classical repertoire and one of the company’s most popular works. Giselle features sets and costumes by Desmond Heeley and lighting by Gil Wechsler.

The all-Canadian mixed programme features works by two of Canada’s most talented choreographers, James Kudelka and Crystal Pite. Mr. Kudelka’s intensely moving and intimately involving The Four Seasons is a powerful exploration in dance and music of the seasons of a man’s life. Emergence by Ms. Pite explores the instinct for creating social forms through the movement and architecture of the choreography itself. Emergence won four Dora Mavor Moore Awards in 2009 for Outstanding Production, Outstanding New Choreography, Outstanding Performance and Outstanding Sound Design/Composition by Owen Belton.
