CANADA’S ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET SEARCHES FOR NEW STARS
2012-2013 International Audition Tour launches today in Saskatchewan
Winnipeg, Manitoba (October 9, 2012) – Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School officially embarked on its 2012-2013 International Audition Tour today in Regina, Saskatchewan to find bright new talent for its professional dance programs.
Each year, the RWB School Professional Division sends a team of artistic faculty and staff to cities across Canada and the United States to audition students for its Ballet Academic, Aspirant and Teacher Training programs. The 2012-2013 International Audition Tour will see the RWB School travel to 15 different cities across Canada and the U.S. before its final stop in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 27, 2013.
Successful participants from the International Audition Tour will gain acceptance into the RWB School Summer Session, scheduled for July 2013, which serves as the second stage of the two-part audition process for entry into RWB School professional programs.
“Every year, the International Audition Tour gives us the opportunity to discover the immense talent that exists across Canada, and to connect with dance communities outside of Winnipeg,” said RWB School Director Arlene Minkhorst. “Many of our graduates have gone on to have successful careers not only with the RWB Company, but with respected dance companies all over the world. This tour is the first step towards developing the next generation of exciting artists.”
This year, the International Audition Tour will be making stops in cities in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Québec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Minneapolis before concluding in Manitoba.
Ballet Academic Program
The RWB School Professional Division offers a full-time seven-level training program beginning in September and running through mid-June. Students are trained in classical ballet based on the Russian system of training, which develops a versatile young artist with strong technique and the ability to be internationally competitive.
The RWB’s Aspirant Program is a unique, intensive training program designed specifically for advanced level emerging classical ballet dancers. It features curriculum for dancers who have completed their professional training and are making the transition from student to professional artist.
Teacher Training Program
The Teacher Training Program is an intensive course designed to enrich knowledge and provide skills required for a career in dance education at both recreational and professional levels. Graduates have enjoyed a 100% employment success rate upon completing the Teacher Training Program.
Master classes led by noted RWB School faculty for both dance students and teachers of dance are also offered during the International Audition Tour. Those interested in attending auditions or master classes are encouraged to visit the RWB School website or call the School office at 1-204-957-3467 to pre-register. Students who are unable to attend may submit an audition DVD to Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School (380 Graham Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4K2).
