November 29, 2010…Canada’s National Ballet School is pleased to announce that the School’s signature fundraising event, its annual gala, this year will take place on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel. In celebration of fifty-one years of glowing accomplishment and to highlight the budding talent emerging at NBS, the gala’s theme this year is Shine.
Shine is inspired by the song from Billy Elliot the Musical. Instead of honouring a couple, as previous galas have, this year NBS acknowledges the role it plays in producing talented, young students who perform the role of Billy in so many Billy Elliot the Musical productions. The theme was also selected to shine a light on NBS. The gala will illuminate the beauty of dance; on the talent and determination required to become a professional dancer; and on the school as one of Canada’s leading arts training institutions. Those who pursue a career in dance must relentlessly dedicate themselves to years of training. Through training at NBS, the raw talent and passion of its students is transformed into all that is brilliant, bright and glowing. NBS is the only ballet school in North America that provides elite dance training, academic instruction and residential care on the same campus. With an international reputation for excellence, the School focuses first and foremost on the students’ talent and not their ability to finance their education. All proceeds raised through the Shine gala will be directed to NBS, an international leader in ballet training.
This year’s gala will feature many of the aspects of previous years that have proven so popular with attendees. Shine offers an evening of dinner, dancing and student performance, as well as a Tiffany & Co-sponsored raffle worth over $23, 000 and an exclusive auction.
