Ballet News Recommends
It’s been a good year for ballet books and I want to recommend my top reads for Christmas. These are the books that you can’t go wrong with, whether they are gifts to give or receive – or whether they are, as we say in my family, “presents of undying affection,.” e.g. presents you get for yourself!
My number one choice is Dancers Among Us, because it’s just so joyful and celebratory and that’s what Christmas is all about. The book has been such a sell-out that it’s now onto its second edition
I also adored this book about Richmond Park, home of The Royal Ballet Lower School
This photography book showcasing the dancers of New York City Ballet is huge and revealling
Darcey Bussell finally published her photo-biography this year and although, given her fame, some of the photos have been around for a while, it’s a lovely read as Bussell has added her own memories of each picture. You’ll find it hard to pick up a new copy of the Limited Edition version
I liked the idea of Ballet Beautiful, if not the actual practice, but come New Year I think this book will be extremely useful
